ISO 639-6

This web site will provide access to the ISO 639-6 alpha-4 code of the world's language variants within the hierarchy of the world's languages and language families as referenced and identified by parts 1, 2T, 2B, 3, 5 and 6 of the ISO 639 family of International Standards.  In addition to these sources of reference the results of wider research will be included; particularly with regard to the hierarchy of languages as language families.

An example of the finished product will become available as a draft from the middle of August 2006 and the initial finished product will replace that towards the end of 2007. Neither of these early versions will form a stable part of the ISO 639-6 standard until that standard is formally published by ISO. The example will include exerpts from at least the Indo-European, Uralic-Yukaghir, Altaic and Nilo-Saharan families of languages.

The initial finished product will contain some 30,000 code elements but the reason we call this the initial finished product is that this is the starting point for continual development and refinement of the data.  The methodology for the compilation and verification of the data includes external verification by international experts.  If you are an expert in a particular field relevant to this standard and would like to participate please contact the Geolang team.
